After getting arrested in Newburgh for his second DWI, Junior Liverpool worried about losing his job, his family and his freedom. But the Woodbury resident, who served in the U.S. Navy for nine years, researched his options and discovered that Newburgh's Veterans Treatment Court could get him the help he needed — and also keep him out of jail or prison. 'I had to learn about the court on my own,' he said. 'No one ever asked if I was a veteran.' Though they operate with little public attention, specialized veterans courts are expanding in the Hudson Valley.
